Summer Fun

Scrappersatsg Challenge # 15
"Mr Turtle"

Summer's here! And what a fun challenge we have. I'm glad the weather finally permitted me to take a bright photo of this LO. It was raining for the past few weeks and sometimes when the sun's out the sky's still a bit cloudy so it's not as bright out as I'd like.

I really wanted to enter this same LO to the Scrappinkids challenge (Favey March) but I wasn't able to take a photo in time for the March 28 deadline. =( Thankfully, the Scrappersatsg challenge just started so I was able to submit it. If it wasn't for work, I would've also started my entry for the Kaya challenge (Bling it on).

I hope work lets up soon so we can really enjoy summer. =)

About the simplest layout ever. I only used 2 papers (1 pink cardstock and 1 patterned paper), chipboard alpha and crystals. I experimented with the journalling and I hope to use the circular/spiral texts again soon.

In Focus

Scrappersatsg March scrapmeet

The second (ever) layout featuring my husband. I should make more of them but he's picky with the designs (no flowers, butterflies, or anything "girly"; swirls, and even cyrstals are okay though). I made this during the first meet for Scrappersatsg. I met with the girls and had an absolute blast.

The chipboard alphas were a great find (for me, at least, since I don't really get up-to-date with new products). They come with a sander so you can opt for a distressed look.

{Create} March 2008
"Miss Independent"

I intended to enter this LO to the Feb Scrappersatsg challenge (love song title) but I wasn't really sure if "Miss Independent" (by Kelly Clarkson) was a love song. I usually have a hard time thinking of a design but this wasn't the case here since I already had the colors and the title in mind. For the {Create} challenge, I only had to add the numbers and voila. I'm so into Luxe rub-ons and crystals right now that I can't stop using them (see the same 3 circle of crystals in "Focus"?). I also put the journalling in circular chipboard/paper cut-outs somewhere on the page. I guess it's just a phase.

Something Old... Something New...

At last! I finally got around to changing my banner. I can't believe it took me days to find a nice picture of a chipmunk and an acorn, then take 30 mins. to find a totally different background, photoshop it and update my blog.

And as always, I haven't posted any new LOs yet as I'm in the middle of making one for the {create} challenge. I hope it doesn't look too "crowded" since I'm experimenting with techniques I've been picking up from other people's work (read: "probably you!"). The very first LO I made for the Scrappersatsg challenge (paper-piecing) is hanging at my workstation and I haven't taken pics of it yet. I also made a very simple one, also hanging at my office desk, and which I rather wanted to show here as well.

In the meantime, Happy Weekend my dears!

You're it!

Just got home, had dinner and started work (yep, logged on to try and fix some bugs *sigh*).

So I go blog-hopping, and found out I got tagged by Marix! =) Hiyee!

Here goes...

You must post the rules before you give your answers. You must list one fact about yourself for each letter of your middle name. Each fact must begin with that letter. If you don't have a middle name, just use your maiden name. After you've been tagged, you need to update your blog with your middle name and answers.

G - Goody-two-shoes
O - Obsessive-Compulsive
C - Corny
O - Organized

Here are the rules:

1. Once you are tagged, link back to the person who tagged you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Post 7 weird or random facts about yourself on your blog.
4. Tag 7 people.

Seven random facts about moi:

1. I like watching Anime
2. I love dark chocolate
3. I collect bunnies (ex. cute figurines, stuffed toys, etc)
4. I can multi-task (scrap while watching T.V.)
5. I like watching Korean telenovelas
6. I like reading Fantasy books.
7. I take at least an hour to get ready for work every morning. =P

I don't have anyone to tag yet, so it'll be a while before this gets around.

You're invited

Not long after being introduced to the world of scrapping (another heartfelt thanks goes out to my colleague Rhea, who upon inviting me to join a couple of other scrapaholics unwittingly made me a scrap-addict) I tried my hand at making cards as well.

To scrap is to lift, I say, and here are the ones I've made for my li'l chipmunk.

"Baby's Christening"

Lifted from cute#1's design (check it out here: http://cute1screations.blogspot.com/). I admit, this wasn't too crafty as I used pre-made stickers (baby rattle) and minimal patterned papers. But the bits I really love are the transparencies (invite message and name tag) and the vellum. cute#1 also wonderfully used A6 plastic passport holders (from Daiso) as envelopes/holders for the card.

Me, my sister and my hubby made about 30 pcs of this card and had an alternate design where instead of a rattle, we used pre-made stickers of a baby shirt and diapers. The cardstock at the bottom was yellow and green.

cardstock color is lilac (was unable to fix the color when taking the photo)

"First Birthday"

Lifted from designer Julie Medeiros' work "twinkle, twinkle" (Paper Crafts magazine - baby creations). The theme for Jillian's first birthday was "cupcakes", and the cupcake cut-out at the bottom of the invite message were from postcards bought from MPH. Each postcard contained about 20 different pictures of the small cupcakes and there were only 2 postcards left at the bookstore which was a relief since we'd searched through all the known scrap places in Singapore as well as all the bookstores that were in the vicinity. We were on a literal "cupcake spree" and by the end of that weekend our eyes were so adjusted to looking for pics of cupcakes (on cards, wrappers, patterned paper, books etc.) that I think we couldn't walk into a store without automatically zooming in on anything that resembles one.

I'm proud of the cupcake "seal" on the ribbon though. This one was based on a picture of a sticker (the cupcake was part of a group of stickers that also had a cake, ice cream, etc. that I wasn't really keen on buying). I downloaded the pic, photoshop-ed, got the outline and then paper-pieced it.

The color theme was pink and lilac (hmm... same as our wedding, I wonder...) and the alternate card to the one featured here is pink with minimal differences.

The first day of March and I decided to feature my first works via Slide show. I made "Baby" some time mid-Sept. 2007 and I still like the design (simple as it is, yet again).

Inspired by magazines borrowed from scrap friends (shout out to Andros! Thanks again for lending me your Creating Keepsakes mags while you were on vaca) and after having browsed some scrap sites, here were some of my other attempts. . .

"Baby Bath Bubbles"
Techniques used: Paper tearing, hidden journalling, shaker box

Design elements: Tags, paper ribbons, chipboard alphas, use of decorative scissors
